PETALING JAYA, June 9 — PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar has strongly denied allegations that she and her husband, Khazanah Research Institute deputy director Yin Shao Loong, used a private jet to perform the haj pilgrimage in Makkah.
In a Facebook post, the former Permatang Pauh MP called the accusations baseless and slanderous, clarifying that the couple had financed the pilgrimage with their own savings and had travelled via a commercial airline.
“There was no private jet, as claimed. We performed the haj just like millions of other pilgrims. We arranged everything through a tour agency, including accommodation and transportation,” she wrote.
Nurul Izzah expressed disappointment over the spread of falsehoods, especially involving a spiritual journey like the haj, and called for political differences to be kept away from personal and religious matters.
“While we may share different opinions and spar in the political arena, let’s not use this pilgrimage to spread accusations and slander,” she added.
The viral claim had stirred public attention online, prompting widespread speculation before the clarification was issued.
