SEPANG, June 27 – A 20-year-old university student’s brutal murder in Cyberjaya has sent shockwaves across Malaysia, as police confirm the arrest of three young suspects in connection with the case.
According to Sepang police chief Asst Comm Norhizam Bahaman said a man and two women, aged between 19 and 20, were apprehended within 48 hours following the police report. The arrests were made in Johor Baru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan.
The suspects are set to be brought before the Sessions Court for a remand hearing, with investigations underway under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Police have urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could hinder ongoing investigations, warning that stern action will be taken against anyone involved in related unlawful activities.
The victim, identified as Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, was a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student from the University of Cyberjaya. Originally from Kuching, she was found unconscious by a friend around 10am on Tuesday and pronounced dead shortly after police arrived.
Initial investigations found no signs of forced entry or sexual assault. However, the victim suffered head injuries believed to be from blunt force trauma. Authorities also noted that several personal items — including her mobile phone, laptop, ATM card, and cash — were missing.
Disturbingly, investigators discovered that multiple transactions had been made using her ATM card after her death.
The tragic case has triggered widespread concern over student safety, especially in off-campus accommodations. CCTV footage and further forensic evidence are being reviewed as part of the investigation.
