The air at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam was thick with mouthwatering aromas and vibrant cultural flair as thousands gathered for the official launch of the Selangor Mega Food Fest 2025, a centerpiece event of the Visit Selangor Year 2025 (VSY2025) campaign. Designed to spotlight Selangor’s rich culinary heritage and tourism appeal, the festival promises an unforgettable four-day experience from 1 to 4 May.
Officiated by YB Dato’ Ng Suee Lim, Selangor’s State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Tourism, the event brought together key stakeholders — Tourism Selangor, Shah Alam City Council, local entrepreneurs, sponsors, and community members — in a celebration of food, culture, and unity.
“Selangor isn’t just a place to eat — it’s where food tells our story. Each dish reflects the heritage and traditions of our diverse communities,” said YB Dato’ Ng. “This festival is a living showcase of how food connects us to our roots and one another.”
The festival features multiple food zones, including traditional Selangor heritage cuisine, viral street food, and modern culinary creations by participants from the PLATS Selangor initiative. With over 100 local foodpreneurs and an expected 30,000+ visitors, the Selangor Mega Food Fest 2025 is set to be one of the largest gastronomic gatherings in the country.
Adding to the festivities, Selangor Chief Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari made a special appearance to flag off the International Women’s Day Run, with over 1,000 participants racing in 5km and 10km categories, blending wellness with celebration.
Beyond food and festivities, YB Dato’ Ng highlighted the festival’s economic ripple effects: “Events like these uplift homestay operators, vendors, tour guides and micro-entrepreneurs. They are not just celebrations — they are engines of economic empowerment.” The festival supports Selangor’s ambitious VSY2025 goals of 8 million tourist arrivals and RM11.7 billion in tourism-related revenue.
“We’re building more than a tourism destination — we’re building experiences,” Dato’ Ng concluded. “To all Malaysians and international guests: come taste the heart of Selangor.”
