Malaysia Reaffirms Commitment to Protect Bangladeshi Workers from Exploitation

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16, 2025 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reiterated Malaysia’s dedication to preventing manipulation, exploitation, and employment fraud against Bangladeshi workers. During a courtesy call on Thursday from Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adviser to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Saifuddin emphasized continued collaboration with Bangladesh to achieve this goal.

In a Facebook post, Saifuddin highlighted discussions on foreign worker management, focusing on policy, operations, and reducing migration costs. He also conveyed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s gratitude to Bangladesh for supporting Malaysia’s efforts to improve foreign worker management.

Meanwhile, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, in a meeting with Asif, discussed worker welfare and management, as noted in a KESUMA post on X. Both parties underscored the need for strategic cooperation to ensure a safe, fair, and rights-respecting employment ecosystem. Sim affirmed Malaysia’s commitment to ethical employment, ensuring foreign workers’ access to social protection, welfare, and skills training, aligned with the Malaysia MADANI framework. — Bernama
